Breaking Down the Barriers to Care

Secretiveness and shame go hand-in-hand with eating disorders. Many individuals are dissatisfied with their body and, as a result, often develop unhealthy attitudes toward eating or exercising. For example it has been shown that 80% of American woman are disatisfied with their appearance. The explosion of diet plans advertised and promoted everyday is certainly a reflection of this problem.

It takes great courage to ask for help to recover from an eating disorder. And for those who do, excellent treatment is available if you can afford it or have insurance and only if your insurance allows you to receive the full care you need. Inpatient care costs as much as $35,000 a month, and outpaitent care often requires weekly visits to a therapist, psychiatrist and other practitioners: all in the same week. An eating disorder patient can routinely spend in excess of a $1,000 per week. And full treatment may be necessary for not weeks, but months or even years.

A Chance to Heal is dedicated to assisting individuals in receiving the care they need by providing financial assistance when insurance coverage and personal finances are inadequate.
