a chance to heal

Rachel Silver Presentation

A Chance To Heal Inaugural Benefit Breakfast
at the Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia

May 19, 2005

My name is Rachel Silver, and just a year ago, this was merely my dream. More importantly, it was a hope.

The hope that pulled me through the darkest time of my life... I was sick for more than a year.

During that time, I had the unconditional love and support of my family and the best medical care available... care that came with no concern for cost or the limitations of typical insurance coverage. Even so, I needed a mission, a purpose to pull me through the recovery.

As I looked around, it was clear that many people suffering from this terrible disease did not have the resources that i did... the lack of full insurance coverage and financial support delayed or prevented the healing and recovery that everyone deserves.

The idea for A Chance To Heal was born. My vision was to see you all here today gathered to support the healing of others. What helped me most in my recovery was continued support and treatment, which helped me develop a skill set to pull through and break free from my eating disorder.

Your contributions will help others receive the continued care they need. In my dream, I saw you sitting here in support of others and their hope of recovery. And here you are.

Today I stand here and thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Now I'd like to introduce my mom, Ivy Silver, who believed in my dream from the beginning and shared my vision of today.
