Reclaim the True Beauty Within

On November 8th A Chance to Heal Foundation Presented...

What is true beauty? How do we perceive ourselves in today's media driven world? How do we reclaim the body, mind, spirit connection? As a vocal advocate for women and men of all ages to be fit and healthy, Emme's message is aimed at increasing awareness and raising funds to help treat eating and body image disorders. "We live in a society that is based upon the attainment of unrealistic beauty. I want women to know their self-esteem is not contingent upon their dress size."

On a full athletic scholarship to Syracuse University, Emme excelled both academically and as member of the crew team. "Finally, the strong and muscular body which I had always tried to hide and change through dieting as a kid, was a spectacular asset!" says Emme, an honoree of SU's Orange Plus Hall of Fame. As the mom of a five year old daughter, Emme is increasingly aware of the messages about body image which are bombarding our children. Having conducted a burial service for her scale and erased the word "diet" from her vocabulary, Emme is committed to a healthy and active lifestyle in order to attain balance in her life.

Emme is the author of True Beauty (Putnam/Perigee, 1997), Life's Little Emergencies (St. Martin's Press, 2003) and Morning Has Broken: A Couple's Journey Through Depression (NAL, 2006), which she co-authored with her husband, Phillip Aronson. Recognized nationwide as the host of E! Entertainment Television's "Fashion Emergency" and always a trend starter, Emme signed with Revlon as the first full-figured model ever awarded a cosmetic contract. She is also the first full-figured woman to have a doll sculpted in her likeness.
